Yesterday, our beloved Mr. Mingle did what every penguin has to do from time to time: swimming! Because he's spoilt by the warm temperatures of our office, we wanted the water temperature to be adjusted to a tropical level and a little bit of foam in it.
After 24 hours on a wonderful warm heating, Mr. Chaming back at the office since today morning. Ready to come with us to Kick-off!!!!

The new EB's second Task

I would like to present to you the result of our second EB-Task: our first official EB picture made in the beautiful area of Thun! (Thanks to the nice lady who took the picture and Alessio who “tuned” it a bit)

This gives us the opportunity to thank the outgoing EB for all the excellent work they did during their term, their passion for our LC and AIESEC as a whole and the transition they gave to us. Again, thank you guys! You’re great! ☺

Dear members of AIESEC in Bern and friends,

Every journey comes to an end and after having hopefully transitioned all the knowledge required to start work on 1st February 2009 to the new EB-team over the past 2 weeks, we're proud to hand over a truly BERNing Local Committee to our successors.

Having passed intensely and surprisingly fast, we have invested reams of hours in the past 11 months and it was worth every single one of it. We're lacking the words to describe this truly unique team-experience we share, an amazing journey full of stunning moments. We would like to thank every single one of you for making this past 11 months such an overwhelmingly intense experience.

As emotional we're getting by letting go tasks which have become dear to every single one of us and leaving our beloved office, we're are looking forward to head to new horizons in Switzerland or abroad.

We wish our successors only the best, may they enjoy the short time of only a year of being a proud member of the EB AIESEC in Bern as much as we did. Please refer to the new team, which is in charge from 1st February 2009 and change your contact-details as follows:

EB 2008 / 2009 of AIESEC in Bern

An exciting year is coming to an end. Throughout the year, AIESEC in Bern has lived a lot of interesting and amazing moments and seen many achievements that are worth looking back to.

It was a real pleasure to celebrate 45 years of AIESEC in Bern with so many alumni and partners as well as a big bunch of active members at our Christmas Dinner. The speeches given by members of the time of the LC's foundation, the late 60ies and 90ies gave us good insights into what AIESEC looked like at those times and made us aware not only of how lucky we are to possess computers and online databases etc but also of what kind of exciting moments we might have missed being born in a world of technology.

In the season's last LCM we were surprised by Santa Claus' visit. He praised the good work of everyone and rewarded outstanding members of LC:

After many hours of presentations, questions, answers, additional rounds of questions, answers, then finally discussions, extended discussions, even further extended discussions and votes, second votes and the final announcement, we are proud to present you our successors -

A big thank-you to everyone who participated in the elections and made it a really interesting evening. Moreover, we were very glad and lucky to be supported by Philipp (chair) and Leo (chair support) from LC Zurich, so we'd like to thank you two guys, too.

Well, although certain people tend to call as the ex-EB already..., we will still be around for some weeks and are looking forward to introducing the new EB into their functions. Uh ah, Bern is burning, uh, ah, burn with us!

Pure excitement is in the air, in only three days the elections to the Executive Board of AIESEC in Bern for the term 2009/10 are going to take place. We are more than proud to present you five highly motivated and qualified Bernese AIESECers challenging themselves with running for an EB position. So here they are:

Impressions of the Swisscom Workshop

Last Monday, a group of 25 Bernese AIESECers was priviledged enough to be received by three Swisscom HR responsibles and to be given a very very useful, professional and practical training on how one should apply for jobs in the "real" world. Although some of the content related directly and only to the company or the business administration area, we are sure that everyone was able to take out some pieces of advice on how to improve his / her behaviour or application documents.

Not only the personal talks in the break or after the training were extremely helpful, especially the simulation of the interview was so too. Didn't we all sometimes think in "äähs" and look to the ceiling when confronted with tough questions...? And didn't we all sometimes give answeres that were maybe unconvincing even to oneself? Rethinking the feedback that was given after the interview, we as AIESECers can consider ourselves to be on a quite good way towards actually getting jobs in the outside world as we will be able to cite many different valuable and concrete experiences we've made in our organisation. And certainly, the "tell me in 30 seconds why we should take you instead of the 100 other applicants"-question did not rock you off your feet as we are (trying to get) used to these kind of questions through our own trainings, entry talks, SRBs...

Last but no least, the delicious and beautifully arranged Apéro riche definitely has to be mentioned! We should keep it in our minds in order to enrich what usually builds the well known Bernese Apéro;-)

So, a big thank-you to the three Swisscom representatives for taking their time and teaching us what we need to know in order to be successful after university. And of course a big thank-you to every participant who helped make this a very successful event!

Workshop 24.11. / Zibelemärit / Christmas Dinner / Run for the EB!

As announced several times already, there is no LCM on 24.11.08 since we will have an external workshop on "professionelles Bewerben". The workshop takes place in Worblaufen that is why we (i.e. all those who have inscribed for the workshop) meet at 17.30h (SHARP) in the main station of Bern (NOT on the Welle as wrongly announced!). Please prepare some questions on the topic and, if you want to, bring your CV along so those holding the workshop can give you advice on it. Otherwise, you do not need to prepare for the workshop.

Furthermore, as you all know Zibelemärit (the onion market) takes place on Monday November 24, too. This is truly a chance to get to know or celebrate an aspect of Bernese culture so it would be nice if we went there together. Ivy and Özge were so kind to set up meeting place and time and they will think about where we could go for breakfast etc. If you want to come along be at the

and let Ivy [jx_ivy(at)hotmail.com] know that you will be there. All the interns in Switzerland are invited so you will hopefully be able to get to know some of them too.

Last but not least, we would like to stress again that we are looking for 5 people to replace the current EB from March 1, 2009 on. Time is running fast and in less than 4 weeks EB elections for the term 09 / 10 will take place!
Looking back over the past 9 months the current EB would like to share that this has been an overwhlemingly intense and incredible experience and strongly agrees that running for a position in the EB either as LCP, VPER, VPF, VPTM or VPX is one of the most interesting, challenging, satisfying... well, overall one of the best leadership opportunities AIESEC has to offer.
Therefore, we strongly recommend every member of AIESEC in Bern to consider running for the EB and to grasp this truly unique opportunity! Do not hesitate to get in contact with the current EB or GOldies to clarify your doubts or questions.

WOW! Do It 2008 has truly been an incredible and unforgettable experience! We know that one feels that everyone says this after every conference but believe us, one does not. Although it is now excactly three days ago that we've come to our shout-less homes, we guess we are not the only ones still struggling to find words to express what this weekend probably means to each and everyone of us.

The story started with the Bernese delegation preventing other delegations from bringing them down ("no, no, no, no, noo, uu-huh!"). But it certainly did not stop there! The Bernese did not only seem to be everywhere, they WERE everywhere.

they lived an amazing team spirit that impressed other people deeply

they showed an extraordinary pro-activity and had a say in what was going on

They were always the biggest delegation standing in the end of the parties

AND: They won the kissing competition which shows how eager they were to make people "burn with us!" Thank you for the thousands of points you collected by singing a love song ("S isch wiä nä Windstooss gsi..."), performing as a lover on stage ("and your body...") and of course kissing as if it were a matter of life and death;-)

And they certainly looked very very good;-)

Let's burn on, dear Bernese people, let's keep the fire and the strength, let's rock throughout the next semester, let's get ready and let's get our stuff done (tales of a mere excistence...), and last but certainly not least, let's take care of each other. THANK YOU!

The OCP Kick-Off 09 is elected!

Last week's LCM was packed with a lot of different matters. To begin with, we heard many amusing and interesting stories from Kenya, where Marcelo had been for his Development Internship during summer. How many projects had there been again? ;-)

Later, while our new members got introduced to AIESEC's exchange programme, our "old" members held elections, and quite important elections, too.

After discussions, questions and the final vote, we have our OCP for next year's Kick-Off and it is:

Once again, we as an EB would like to thank Emina for having the courage to run for this position and to take over the responsibility for this big event! We wish her and her team all the best for their task, that they may be able to take out of this experience whatever they may want to and have a very good time together!

Of course, such an exhausting evening really cries for an apéro in its end, so we combined Coffee Talks as well as our new Götti / Gotti concept with having a drink together and spent some time discussing, laughing, asking, answering and hopefully getting to know!

National Task Force

The MC is having an exchange participant flow and recruitment task force, i.e. an event of 1.5 days where a lot of members of AIESEC in Switzerland with as diverse a background as possible come together and discuss how to do the next recruitment and how to include exchange preparation. The MC is explicitly looking for members of all stages, so grab the chance and get involved!

The task force takes place on July 22-23, 2008 in the MC office.

For all those who don't know it yet: from tomorrow onwards there will be a new MC for Switzerland! These special people have been around for nearly half a year already and, with some last help of the outgoing MC, are currently diving deep into their new tasks. Before celebrating the start of their term, however, we'd like to give many many thanks to the outgoing team. As host LC for the MC we've been priviledged by seeing MC members quite often and have always enjoyed their enriching presence at LCMs and social events. A huge and very special thank you goes to our LC Coach, lovely hairy fairy Simone ;-). It has been such a pleasure having you with us, and your smiles, laughs, your perfect randomness and steady support will be missed a lot! Of course, we hope that the bonds to the new MC will be just as tight and cordial as the ones to the outgoing MC, so we'll give our best to achieve this. Welcome, dear Regi, Sarah, Jih-Ming, Marcel, José and Tomek! We're proud to be your host LC!

Now, there have been even more changes, this time more correctly allocated in the category of X-changes. Last week, within 2 days, we have received 3 confirmations by companies who want an intern through AIESEC! All of the three new internships (TNs) are now in the database and being taken care of by the ICX team - we're positive that we will be able to finally receive new interns the latest by the end of August!!!

Hello My Future! ... or a Bernese out there

First of all, welcome to all new members since I left CH in Summer 2007! Don't hesitate and grab the unique @opportunities we are offering!

For all who don't know me, I am Anna, joined AIESEC in Fall 2006. Since August 2007 I was studying and traveling in China for 7 months until I started my internship two months ago in Tokyo. I would like to share a fraction of my @XP.

After some personal "earthquakes" to acclimate myself in Tokyo, I see now beyond the invisible masks (or behind barrels make-up) of Tokyo people. I accent on purpose Tokyo because I am sure, that the rest of Japan is different. I benefit a lot from Japanese kindness, civilization (especially after rural China), safety (Japan is one of the safest country of the world!) and progress. But beside of all the shining lights at night, there exist deep black shadows too. Social problems such like extremely overworking hours, alcoholism, high suicid rate, homelessness and social problematic establishments such like Pachinkos (coin games) and Hostessbars, which you can hardly ignore.

But when it stops raining and the daily sorrows clear away, the country of the rising sun shows one of its most unique cultures ever: diversity and acceptance in people styling, cultural festivals on a top level, concerts in parks and the world's most delicous food ever! I cannot even work in a reputable Graphic design office in Tokyo but also live next to the most bustled district, namely Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku, of the world ever!

Apart from all the excitement, there exist moments I reflect about my life. How much luck I have to be born in Switzerland. How much privileges I have to be a university student. And especially how many opportunities I have as an AIESECer.

In AIESEC TOLC (Tokyo University LC), I am not only active in many drinking parties but also hold presentations of LC Bern and @CH, initiate activities for xchange and help in retention of the newies through communication and showing them the opportunities we offer. Not only the newies or members in China or Japan are AIESEC's future, also you guys are leaders of the future. We are the future.

With that, I welcome you to the future from the future (also so-called Tokyo;-)

The last LCM of this semester

Before we had our last LCM of this semester, Abhijit from India came to give interesting insights into his country and also to present exchange opportunities in Chennai. It struck me that it was somehow weird to sit at one table with an Indian, hearing him talk of a country rather far in the East, feeling as if this was the most normal thing you would do on a Monday afternoon and at the same time recognising how different our lives must be... I guess this is what makes exchange so powerful: you can actually live another life for some time and not only hear people tell you about it.

The last LCM of a semester is always special because we reward members who have been very active and successful in the LC.

We were very glad to award CORNELIA with the

Most Pro-Active Member Award

because she has shown a huge commitment and has been extremely active in a lot of different fields. Thank you very much!!

We were also very happy to hand over to CHREGU the

Most Golden GOldie Award

as he has been e great help throughout his GOldie career and tried to stay in touch with the LC by actively contributing to and shaping the spirit among the Bernese. Thank you very much!!

It is very sad that not only both these two but also Jeroen, Yavor and Charlene most probably were present at an LCM for the last time because they are either heading for their future and leaving university or going home / abroad soon. We wish you all the best for whichever path you might take and hope that you will still pop in from time to time and stay around somehow - it was so great to have you with us!!

Most probably without many people's notice, a small delegation of Bernese AIESECers consisting of Nik, Aline, François and Céline went to the Baselians on Wednesday in order to get our dear Mr. Mingle back. We're happy that the Basel people have reconsidered their stance on the BBC and are now again ready to collaborate. Let's enhance this during summer!

So, this was it for the spring semester 2008. We wish everyone good luck for their exams, a great summer break and an extraordinary experience abroad for those who go on exchange. Of course, noone has to do without AIESEC during summer: there will be selling days, matching activities and hopefully a new intern soon, teambuildings, planning days and also SUMMER EVENTS!

Meeting with LC VPICX from India on May 19th / Mr. Mingle

Abhijit, the VPICX of LC Chennai in India is coming to Bern and will present TN opportunities in his LC. His LC has about 40 (!!) TNs available (MTs, DTs and TTs) so it will certainly be interesting to hear about them. Furthermore, Abhijit is open to answer any questions concerning eXchange and life in India so do grasp this opportunity and join the meeting on

Now a sad story that has to be made public: We'd like to express our disappointment about the fact that two representatives of LC Basel have been so nasty as to steal Mr. Mingle on their visit here in Bern! Readers of this post might imagine that there is a lot of resentment and desire for revenge among the Bernese as we have put a lot of faith in the strength of BBC while the Basel people deceived us bitterly.

The good news:
Mr. Mingle is still alive and according to records of LC Basel even enjoying the warm weather in their city up North

The bad news:
As many Bernese as possible should show up at the Basel LCM on Wednesday, May 21. Despite the cruelty shown by the Basel people we will not use any kind of violence. Rather, we will demonstrate peacefully for a more collaborative and trustworthy BBC.

Successes All Over

Many things happened in the past two days and it seems as if we are even having a hard time to appreciate and recognise the many successes and happenings appropriately.

First of all, our dear Newies have made it to finally become Teamees! Once again, guys, you are wonderful and we are proud and extremely happy to have you with us - we really hope you will have a great time in our LC and in AIESEC.

At the same LCM, our LC elected its OCP Career Days 2009. After long and intense discussions with everyone involved from (new) Teamees, established Teamees, to Goldies, the MC (thanks for joining), the EB, and of course skype, and after surviving some minor technical problems when skype decided not to deliver what it promised and the Word on the secretary's computer incidentally shut down, we are proud to announce that Sabina Bussmann was elected OCP CD 09! Many many warm thanks also to Mirjam Suter who ran for the same position but was not elected. A big thank you also to Jeroen, our wonderful Chair and lovely honorary member.

Today was a special day for our PboX ASEAN as they finally had their Learning Event. A huge THANK-YOU to especially all the BURNese but also the non-Bernese participants of Kick-Off 2008! This extended weekend was an incredible experience and we are so glad we have been able to share this with you. Surely, your commitment and enthusiasm will motivate us for the upcoming weeks and months and we are really looking forward to building on this and even going beyond - or as LC Basel would say: Sky is the limit! ... which leads to the following very pleasant output of Kick-Off and preceeding conferences:

Congratulations!

The new cult-team will be in charge of bringing cultural issues to our LCMs: With regular short presentations this team is to raise our cultural awareness and to make us dive deep into other cultures during the LCM of May 5, which they are going to organise themselves. Members who go on exchange this summer are strongly encouraged to be part of this team.

Saying goodbye is never easy. And this is really true for our case. Within one month, we have to say goodbye to three special Bernese people who have put a huge amount of effort into the wellbeing of our LC. As LCP, VPF / OCP CareerDays and ICX Teamleader / NST Alumni they have left a deep imprint on LC Bern and AiS and contributed significantly to driving it towards successful performance.
Oli, Kathrin and Sabina will soon leave Switzerland for adventures in China, Canada and Japan respectively and hopefully have a very intense cultural and personal experience. We wish them all the best for their time abroad and will be happy to welcome them back, once they've had enough of foreign cities, unknown languages and customs or different worldviews;-) Or as John Gay put it:
We only part to meet again.

Saying Goodbye Part 3: Thank You!

It feels strange to not be in the EB anymore, to not be responsible for tonight's info event, to not be part of the decision making process and in that sense to be excluded.
It was a great term. Not only did all of us take a huge leap forward in our personal and professional development, but we also had great times and could experience many unforgettable moments!

Now it's the time to look back and to say thank you. Thank you to all those people who supported us in our work, who accompanied us along the way, who challenged us, who were part of our beloved LC and who became our friends. THANKS A LOT!!!

Of course it was not always easy, there were ups and down. Times of great optimism were followed by difficult times in which not everything worked out as we believed it would. But being in a team, in the EB, helped all of us to carry on, to work towards those better times and in case someone felt stressed out, was down, there was always a team mate who would be there. It may sound cheesy, but the team experience was probably the best part of being in the EB. All of us are very different, but still we managed to work together during a year and to go through the good and bad times together. At the beginning everyone was sceptical if this team constellation would work, but after a while we knew that it would. And now it's going to be hard to leave this time behind - the randomness during EBMs, our social activities, the structure our term gave us.

When we look back on our term we reached most of our goals. In the beginning you think you could change everything, create a completely new LC. But with the time you realize that not everything can be changed immediately or at once. So you need to set priorities and to focus on certain areas. That's what we did and we think we're not exaggerating when we're saying that today's LC Bern took a big step foward and now has the tools to perform on a high level. At the beginning we thought we could deliver results immediately, but now we see our term more as a foundation for future successes. Without structures and people it is impossible to perform immediately.

The last weeks were a again a very intense time. We did transition, had a EB current and elect dinner, organized WIND-DOWN, went on a EB winter weekend to the mountains, had very random lunches in our "lounge". Here some impressions...

We would also like to thank your successors for their commitment and spirit. They're all great people and we're more than confident that they will do great in their term. That makes it a lot easier to leave the EB, because we know that the LC we put so much effort in, is in very good hands. And they're just as random as we are! Maybe even more...:-) Watch out, AiS!!!

Saying Goodbye part 2

Yesterday, the last LCM under the supervision of the current EB took place. Next week, information events are going to take place and in two weeks, the incoming EB will already welcome the next generation of Newies...

We would like to thank the incoming EB for their commitment they've already shown and the hard work, they're going to put in the LC during their term...!!

Finally, they gave us two gifts: A voucher for the Hammam in Bern (which will be put to use very soon..;), and a "random stamp"... Even though only a few selected people actually now what that means, we're proud that our randomness not only is infamous in AIESEC in Switzerland, but that it will be continued with the new EB...

Hello world!

We're currently busy studying for exams or writing them, planning the next semester, redesigning the blog (upcoming events now on the side bar, and: observe and be stunned about its new AIESEC-alignment), delivering team and individual transition (fo' shizzle Mrs. R...;), working on daily tasks and doing whatever a busy EB is supposed to be doing...;)

But, beware! We'll be back very soon! We will have our first Local Committee Meeting next Monday, February 18th 2008! Don't miss this, as you will be informed about what awaits you next semester in LC Bern and other important things, such as how you could go on an internship with AIESEC already this summer...!!

And of course, don't be reluctant to the mandatory "after-LCM-drink" together...;)

Transition

On Thursday and Friday the first part of the team to team EB transition took place. Besides the ongoing individual functional transition and the national transition at the conference TRANSIT in early March, this is a very important part of the knowledge and experience transfer from the current to the elected EB. We set expectations, talked about what it means to be on the EB, about national trends, the LC history, legislation and the compendium, the external environment, X processes, recruitment/selection/induction, the LC structure, our projects, our teams and much more. This has only been the first part of the team to team transition, the second part will follow at the beginning of the semester. But what I can tell you on behalf of the current EB: The elected EB will rock the upcoming term for sure!!!

After 4.5h of speeches, Q&A's, discussions and votings, the Executive Board 2008/09 of LC Bern was finally determined at 23.15h yesterday evening.

Quite a few things were happening yesterday. First, our Leader Team Meeting was held in the afternoon. Then, before the LCM we had an "open office" for people interested in running for the EB, where they could ask us questions and where we would talk about our EB experience. It was really cool to see so many people interested in this amazing experience, that we are not worried about finding the best new EB possible...;) (==> Reminder: EB Elections are taking place on December 10th)

After the LCM, where the CareerDays budget was presented and voted on, where Kathrin talked about her WeGrow experience and where the teams got together for a short team meeting, some of us, the "courageous ones" (Adebisi 2007: 14) went back to the Zibelemärit.

Unfortunately, it was almost over, no Zibele and no Märit around anymore. Nevertheless, some "Beize" were still selling "Glüehwy" or the infamous "Jägermeistertee", so there was still alcohol to get us warm in the cold.

EB Elections are happening on December 10th.

This is also going to be the last LCM of the season. The application form has been sent out, as has the "juicy" promotion ppt.

The Truth About Mr. Mingle

We all saw during the closing plenary, that LC Geneva had abducted our beloved Newie Mr. Mingle. Even though he fought back and defended himself with all his power, he had no chance because the Genevans were superior in number.

Not only was he being exposed to the disturbing mindset of a certain VPTM, no: he was also not able to attend the Newie track and therefore inhibited in his personal development!

But here's the whole truth: While Mr. Mingle was held captured in Marmita's room, they fell in love had a baby! (he mingled a little bit too much). But, after the short-term pregnancy, Marmita and Mr. Mingle separated. Full time custody was granted to Mr. Mingle however, and so he lives (together with Mingle junior) happily in the LC Bern office...

Yesterday evening we had our second induction LCM with the newies who passed their entry talk. The main focus was on the opportunities we offer in the LC - PBoXes, OCs, teams and jobs. After an intensive LCM we had a nice apéro organized by our "Emerging Markets South-East Asia"-PBoX. They served tea, exotic beer and asian snacks...

A Bernese's journey to Denmark - the story of Verena Hefti

LC Bern – my home LC, the place that has taught me so much, friendships, long nights in the office, immense growth as a person, first scary company meetings, 45 interns from all over the world, responsibility, fun…

These are a few things that come to my mind when I reflect for a few seconds about LC Bern. At the risk of sounding cheesy: I would not be what I am today without having joined LC Bern in that cold October 2002. The things I did during my time in AIESEC Bern include: Manage a big company account (around 15 interns a year) as VPICX, work with a great team that have become my friends, replace the toner at least 50 times and other misceallouns things.
My Leadership terms in Bern gave me self confidence, strategic experience and much more. After some time, it became clear to me that I wouldn’t wanna leave AIESEC without having done one of the most intense experiences one can do beside an internship in AIESEC: An international MC (AIESEC National Committee Executive Board) experience!

I decided to apply for AIESEC in Denmark and was selected: In June 06, I suddenly stood in Copenhagen, being selected as Vice President for People Development, responsible for 150 people, 3 major conferences and member of an international team!

My highlights:

I will definitely never be able to forget this experience. I think it is absolutely unique that one can have such a leadership experience at our age, it challenged me to the fullest, but it made me stretch myself and make the sentence “Develop your Potential” a reality.

I came back from Lithuania on Friday evening. I spent there nine days attending an international LCP-conference called EuroCo '07. There I met 157 LCPs from about 30 countries and attended interesting workshops and sessions facilitated by great individuals from AIESEC International, the Growth Network board and MCPs from all over WENA and CEE. I brought back many ideas that would like to put into action together with you guys! More about my experience in Lithuania will follow at one of the next LCMs!

Arrival of new intern

Our new intern Jana from Slowakia arrived in Bern this morning at 8 o'clock. She will be working for UPS SCS in Biel and living in Bern. Aline, Céline, Shanti, Chregu and I welcomed her in our beautiful city, showed her the apartment and went shopping with her. Now she already left to Freiburg (Germany) where she is visiting her sister, so she won't be around for the weekend. But on Monday she will come to the LCM and you will have the chance to welcome her in our LC!

With today's "Tag des Studienbeginns" (freely translated: "First day of university") the fall recruitment of AIESEC Bern has started! During a so-called campus fair we had a stand where we presented AIESEC and distributed Nestlé welcome bags, our AIESEC agendas, flyers and leaflets. We were talking with many interested students so we're very positive to recruit many cool members during the next couple of weeks! I wanted to thank everyone who helped today, Monique, Aline, Sabina and Simon!

But this only the beginning. Next week we will distribute more agendas, hang up more posters and during the following week there will be AIESEC stands, classroom presentations and then one week later our famous information events. In order to have a kick-ass recruitment we need your help, so don't be shy and support the EB! You will get more information at Monday's LCM. Remember, once you were the one being recruited, so why not enable someone else to have the same experience you had in AIESEC?

City Tour Lucerne on September 29th

We will show you the most beautiful and important places of this medieval town on this afternoon. After getting to know the city itself, we will chill out at the beautiful lake of Lucerne (don't worry, if it rains, we have an alternative).

Second LC Bern summer social event

After a very successful first edition (LC BBQ in July) the second LC Bern summer social event took place yesterday evening. We started with a relaxed apéro where we could catch up and hear what the others have been doing lately. Afterwards we were a bit more active and went bowling. It was loads of fun and a more or less serious competition. :-) It was great to welcome Nadine again at LC level, as she recently came back from an internship in London. I personally enjoyed the evening very much and I hope we keep the spirit and will rock the new semester with a great recruitment. ScaLDS 2007

The EB and Nik just came back from an exciting time in Finland where we attended the Scandinvaian Leadership Development Seminar 2007. The conference started in the beautiful Finnish capital Helsinki on August 1st and continued in the Hotelli Hiittenharju in Harjavalta until August 5th. The conference for EBs and OCPs/project manager was attended by about 120 delegates from countries such as Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, The Netherlands and even Kenya. The five days consisted of country time, sessions on (personal) leadership, team exercises, workshops on external trends and of course also having fun at parties. More about the content and our learnings will follow at the second LCM of the new semester, but what I can already tell you is that we all had a great time and are very much looking forward to rocking the new semester together with you!!!

XPS II

This weekend, Bern hosted another AIESEC conference. Yet another XPS (eXchange Preparation Seminar). This was intended to prepare all the pocket-recruited EPs (Exchange Participants) for their journey.
Two weeks before the event, we (the VPXs) began to organize this event. Bern was chosen for the conference location, because it's central for all the different delegates and facis.

So here we were, Saturday 14th of July in Berne. The day started with SRBs (Student Review Boards) for the recruited EPs in the University. Thanks to the SBB and the construction site on the train station square, we had to start later and eventually the whole day things would start later.

Then, we transferred to the Pfadiheim Nydegg in Bern, for the XPS. While Facis were facilitating and Delegates were having sessions, the OC on place (that would be me and Jenni, Zurich's lovely VPX) played OC. We went shopping for the BBQ and the breakfast. Transferred old conference food and beverages from the LC office to the conference site, got a sound system for the party (which we didn't use in the end) from Solothurn at Simon's place to Bern, spoke with lost AIESECers on the phone to describe them the way to the site, made the food ready for the BBQ, cleaned, made dishes and so on... We were often stressed out, but we had our fun, too...;)

Unfortunately, there were not as many delegates as we expected, which turned the seminar into a very private and intimate event, which was nice too. This is why we would like to thank everybody involved in organizing this seminar and making it a success:

Hi LC Bern!

The first LC activity of this summer will be a BBQ on the Gurten. The event will take place on Tuesday, July 17th, starting at 17.30h.

Please bring meat/vegetables/something to put on the grill and (if you like) alcohol for yourself, the rest will be provided by the LC (soft drinks, bread, salads). In case the BBQ won't take place an e-mail will be sent out one day before.

MC Transition Party

This Saturday, " The Ultimate Swiss MC Transition Party" took place in Berne. First, the BBQ at the Eichholz and afterwards the party at the Silo Lounge, with dance circles, an improvised but nevertheless very loud midnight countdown and (as facebook will show us) surely many compromising pictures...

On behalf of the whole Local Committee, the EB of Berne would like to thank the MC of 2006/2007 for their advice, support and the good times we had. Thanks for the LC coaching, the functional coaching and of course also the Bernese in the MC for representing our LC on the national level...
We wish you all the best on your future adventures, being it studying "abroad" / "à l'étranger" or going on AIESEC eXchange.

Also, we would like welcome (virtually this time) the new and now current MC of 2007/2008 to the beautiful city of Berne. We know that you will rock AiS and we can't wait to know who's going to be our LC coach and start bugging all of you with phone calls and annoying e-mails...;)

The Career Days are the main story. There are some points mentioned which we are saying since quite some time now. Wonder if you can spot them. :)
And there's a small interview with our ExVPPD Iulia although they have misspelled her name terribly. :P

Anyway. In my opinion it's a good review and worth a reading. Our work seems to be really appreciated by the university which makes me look forward to the next year. :)

Last LCM and CD OCP Elections

Yesterday, we had our last LCM for the season. The agenda was quite diverse.

Career Days 2007

The Career Days 2007 are over. It's time to reflect on what we created. Personally for me the Career Days were a huge success even before they started. I had a very intense experience with the team. For 6 months (even a bit more) we were working hard and it's just amazing how the team evolved. Thank you Anna, Kathrin, Dänu and Ananda for all you work and commitment and for all the things that I learned from every one of you. We received some very valuable feedbacks from companies and students and we will receive even more very soon. This will help us improve the event for next year even more.
Speaking of improvement: The OCP position for the Career Days 2008 will be open soon. You should consider taking the opportunity and run for OCP or join the future OC. It's one of the most challenging and rewarding opportunities our LC has to offer.

A person that needs to be mentioned especially is Stefan Katz from LC Geneva. This guy came on monday before the fair from Geneva to Bern to meet a friend. Not only did he bring the beautiful (but heavy) AIESEC Stand, but he stayed for more than 6 hours to help us with the preparation and the electricity. Geneva you can be very proud to have a member like this in your LC.

At tonights LCM our Newies became officially Teamees. They held their activation speeches and received their Certificate later on.

I have to tell: this Newie Generation is just awesome. Motivated, proactive, just everything you could wish for. In the end it's gonna be them driving our LC forward, and the EB is totally enthusiastic about them. Thanks for already contributing so much in our LC. Keep it up and we will reach new spheres... (how poetic..;)

KICK-OFF 07 was a great conference for LC Bern! On behalf of the EB I would like to thank the Newies, the Teamees, the Goldies and also the interns for contributing to an awesome LC spirit and for showing so much proactivity. I feel that this is just the beginning and a lot more is still to come! Go Bern, go Bern, go Bern!!! :-)

The EB, Laura and Yavor after a successful Awards Night: Kathrin won the "Most Progressive Member"-award, Yavor won the "Leadership"-award and LC Bern received the "LC Development"-award. This evening was definitely the highlight of the conference!

Besides learning more about AIESEC, attending workshops by external partners and gaining some functional skills we also had loads of fun. On the photo you see some Bernese at the "schizophrenia"-party! :-)

The 100th Post

ta-ta-ta-taaaaa: here it comes, the 100th blog entry of AIESEC Bern! A reason to celebrate! ;)

This is actually just a short update, but it is long overdue:
My lovely predecessor Dänu (VPX 2006/2007) has successfully matched himself. (This means, that he's found an internship.) He has chosen an Education Traineeship in Dnepropetrosk, Ukraine.

KICK-OFF 07 is taking place from May 10th-13th (Thursday afternoon until Sunday) in Fiesch. There will be six tracks (Newie, Teamee, Leader, Goldie, Intern and Returnee) to meet the needs of all our members. The conference agenda looks very promising with workshops on Finance (UBS), Entrepreneurship (Brainstore), Energy & Finance (Syngenta), Innovation (Swisscom), Eduaction and Emerging Markets. The application deadline is on Sunday, April 29th, so please apply as soon as possible. EB Planning Weekend

Together with our LC Coach Cileia from the MC, we got deeper knowledge about our role as the EB, we worked on important things like our vision and our year plan for our term and of course... we had a lot of fun together, too...

TtT/TtAT

Hey LC Bern,

I'd like to drop here some lines about the TtT (Train the Trainer) I went through last weekend. Counting the delegates of TtT, TtAT (advanced training), Facis and OC we were around 50 people who spent the weekend in a marvellous environment (in Mannenbach TG, next to the Lake Constance). Apart from Ananda who was working for the OC (thanx for doing a truly amazing job!!!) I was unfortunately the only representative from Bern! :( I hope that with sharing some information about the TtT, more of you might get interested and participate in the future!

The objective of the TtT is to prepare the participants for a facilitating experience on a conference or delivering a training in the LC. But the experiences you make during this seminar are not only helpful within AIESEC but as well outside e.g. when you have to present your term paper at university or if you have to convince the board of your company that your project is mind-blowing.

From Friday till Sunday we went through several sessions like how to create a session, presentation skills or use of training aids/different training methods. And a really big part of those training sessions were practical exercises. One exercise I'd like to mention here, to show, that it was sometimes really challenging and not just a delivery of boring stuff you heard several times before:

In the first part of this exercise everyone had time for half an hour to create an outline of a session. The topic was up to you. The time frame as well. After those 30 minutes, they collected all outlines and redistributed them in order that no one had the topic they prepared. And then you had 3 minutes to adapt the given outline to do a session of 10 minutes and deliver this session. Now, try to adapt a 2 hours session about project management or read a 3 pages outline about AIESEC Identity in 3 minutes and adapt it to a 10 minutes session and deliver it straight away to a group of 8 people...!

As you might guess, there was a lot to learn about skills, methods but about yourself as well. Hey Guys!

As you know, the new EB is already working hard in order to get the best out of this term. The recruitment is now in its hot phase and we want to thank you all for helping us through this crucial process.

Last wednesday, after our first Info Event, a bunch of us went back to the office (or to the lounge), where a very special election took place. The election of Bern's new Local Committee Vice-President Ziudihui (VPZ)!

As Laura has fullfilled the very important tasks of the VPZ in the term of 2006/2007, it was her task to run the election process and baptize her successor.

We're very proud to announce the new VPZ of LC Bern:

Kathrin Loppacher, VPF/VPZ 2007/2008!!!

Kathrin was clearly predestined to execute this position in our LC. If you don't know yet, what the Vice-President Ziudihui's tasks are, ask Kathrin. She'll be happy to tell and show you exactly what she's responsible for.

Career Days Update

Exactly 3 Weeks to go to the first workshop. A bit less than 6 Weeks to the Company Fair on the 22.05.
We are getting into the hot phase! Soon the booklets and the marketing gadgets will arrive and we will start campus marketing.

Some good news to share:

The Credit Suisse will be our Main Sponsor.
Prof. Dr. Gunter Stephan will open the fair with a speech.
We have 30 company stands.
We have 2(!) floors for the fair in the main building and the UniS. So there will be lot's of space!

As I said things are getting hot. I have a great time as OCP. It's so much fun to work with this cool team on this project. You should try it yourself.
Soon we will need the support of the whole LC for the extended OC on site. We count on you!

I think I don't have to explain why the info events are so important for our LC, so please be there and show some LC Bern-spirit to the interested students! Here an overview on the events and the brave people who took on some mini-jobs:

Our brand new office!!!

After about eight hours of hard work it was done, our brand new LC office was born!!! Thanks a lot Kathrin and Francois for fighting with me through tons of old files from random people (actually EB-members who were in power like 4 years ago), letters from PTT (does anyone know when it changed to "Die Post" and "Swisscom"?), weird CDs and discs etc. The list is almost endless, but luckily these times are over now and the office is again a fun place to be. We hope that the environment is now more inspiring and many of you will drop in to say hi or to work! The EB is looking forward to seeing you there soon!

We were very surprised to find like 500 sheets of colored paper in all sizes (will we ever use them?)
Now we have a clearly separated meeting area...

Busy Week

This week (actually last friday), we started the whole recruitment process. Classroom Presentations (CRPs, to add another abbreviation to the AIESEC-lingo), Info Stands and Flyer spreading.

Thanks to everybody who's helping us. We're really glad you're putting all your effort in this! We're sure, it will be a very cool thing for all of us, when we have our Newies in a few weeks! ;)

1. NLE on Thursday: Read the post below to know more about this cool event!
2. Recruitment: The lists for the classroom presentations and the info stands are online on @.net, here’s the direct link to it.
Those who haven’t got anything to do yet, please let me know what you would be able to do and when you could do it!

KEEP IN MIND: We need a lot of Newies this time and it is everybody’s duty to help the EB in the recruitment process. This concerns not only the (new) active members, but also EVERYBODY in the LC.

3. The new EB proposes to change the LCM time from 18:15 back to 19:00, like it used to be.
Reasons:
- Our interns have no chance of attending the meetings on time, since they’re working in Biel the whole afternoon.
- Other members haven’t come to any of the meetings since the time has been changed, probably because they can’t come this early
- People (also prospective members) (might) have university until 6 p.m. or even later, so that 7 p.m. would probably a better time for the majority of the members.

VERY IMPORTANT: Since too few members were at the last LCM to discuss this, we’re having a blog vote!!!!!!!
You have the following choices: 6.15 p.m. or 7 p.m.

Please leave a comment, where you vote for one of the two choices. In the end of the week, we’re going to announce the result, which will be effective from next Monday, April 2nd on…

4. The new EB has prepared a great LCM for next Monday: It is going to be our first LCM in our official term, we are going to present our experiences from WENA LDS in Wales, Yavor has some very good news concerning Career Days, the old EB is going to be thanked and many more things…!!

--> So please, everybody: come to this very special LCM (especially the old EB ;)! It would be really cool to see as many faces there as possible, especially those the new EB hasn’t seen yet… (Goooooooldies…..;).

Even though the agenda might not seem that appealing to you (especially the part of the allocation...) I urge you to come. It's the responsibility and duty of every member to support the recruitment and with that the LC as such. So please, be there. We count on you! The LCM starts at 18.15h.

To be honest, I won't be there on Monday, but I've a good reason. I will be in Geneva attending the Harvard World Model United Nations Conference from Sunday to Friday. After that I'm heading for Lugano to take part in INPUT, which is the LCP conference. I'm sure I will bring home some new strategies and ideas for our LC.
Talking about conferences: For those who didn't know it, the EB elect was in South Wales last week to attend the WENA LDS (Leadership Development Seminar). We went on an intensive journey of self-discovery, learned about leadership and last but not least met loads of AIESECers from all over Europe and North America. It was a great experience! A detailed presentation of the conference will follow at the LCM on April 2nd.

ski day

Hi there,
As I already told you before, we're organising a skiing trip on Saturday 17th of March. We're going to take the train at 07.39am in Berne to Grindelwald, so that we'll have enough time to rent equipment and enjoy the day. If you like, we could book a restaurant after skiing and have a Fondue, before we go back to Berne. The cost we'll be around 65 for the ski pass and around 20 for the Fondue.
Please let us know untill Monday 12th of March if you'll join us or not and if we should book a place in the restaurant for you.

EB elect is going to WENA LDS!!!

From next Wednesday to Sunday the entire EB elect is attending the amazing WENA LDS (Western Europe North America Growth Network Leadership Development Seminar) in South Wales/UK. We're all excited and can't wait to get there. I'm sure we'll profite a lot, bring home new ideas for our LC and have a great international @ experience.
These days the EB elect is having transition and is planning the upcoming recruitment. By the way, the first LCM is taking place on March 19th at 18.15h. I hope to see you there and enjoy the last days of semester break! And for those who are still writing exams: Good luck!
